CHANDIGARH- The Congress today rejected the “mask” defence of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about his controversial video, saying it is a “lame afterthought” aimed at defending the indefensible.
The party reiterated its demand that the Chief Minister must resign immediately and present himself before the Akal Takht. Mann is both guilty and defiant and the more he shows his defiance, more his guilt is established and people are getting convinced that he has a lot to hide, Warring added.
Reacting to Chief Minister’s claims made during a special press conference, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that he (the CM) was continuously weaving a web of lies around himself from which it will be impossible for him to get out.
Warring ridiculed Mann’s defence of someone wearing a mask to look like him. Noting that it was an outright lie, he pointed out, first Mann claimed that the video was generated through artificial intelligence, then he claimed that the person in the video was not him and now he has come up with another imaginary theory that the person was wearing a mask resembling his face. “I won’t be surprised if Mann comes with some other lame defence tomorrow”, he said, while remarking that Mann’s advisors were taking him for a ride with silly and funny defence like today’s.
“This is nothing but a series of lies that is exposing Mann every day he utters a new lie”, the PCC president observed, while wondering how someone at his position could bite such baits which instead of proving him innocent are further entangling him in the web of lies he cannot escape from.
Taking a dig at Mann for his claims that people of Punjab were with him, Warring said that leave aside the people, even the Aam Aadmi Party and his own government has started disowning him.
“So much so, Mann now has to come out for his own defence as nobody in his party and the government is prepared to defend his lies”, he said, while referring to the embarrassment caused to Finance Minister Harpal Cheema after he produced a forensic report that later turned out to be fake.
