Chandigarh- Shiromani Akali Dal Punargathit General Secretary and former All India Sikh Students Federation leader S. Jasbir Singh Ghuman, a close associate of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale who spent a long period in Jodhpur Jail after Operation Blue Star, has expressed concern in a written statement that never before in history has the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib needed to send letters to media houses requesting coverage of its actions.
He stated that actions taken by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, being universally accepted, naturally receive publicity on their own. He cited the events of December 2, 2024, at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, which were recorded and shared worldwide by journalists and ordinary people alike.
S. Ghuman also reminded the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) that it had previously been required to return ₹92 lakh along with interest that had been spent on publicizing the pardon granted to the Dera Sacha Sauda chief. He cautioned that the money now being spent on promoting the June 15 Hukamnama (edict) may also have to be returned in the future, as the general public has not yet shown any significant response to it.
According to him, this lack of public reaction is evident from the large gatherings still attending the Chief Minister’s public events. He further said that if the SGPC had shown even one-tenth of the commitment and urgency toward implementing the directives issued on December 2, as it is showing toward the June 15 Hukamnama, then Sukhbir Singh Badal would never have had the courage to accept everything initially and later backtrack.
Ghuman added that if Sukhbir Singh Badal—who today talks about launching a Dharam Yudh Morcha—had accepted and implemented the December 2 directives while serving as President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, no one would now dare to defy the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
