Chandigarh- The series of events that unfolded at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2, 2024, accurately reflects the sentiments of the Panth. During that time, the decision of the Five Singh Sahibs ordered the revival of the Panth's representative body, as the previous leadership, corrupted by the greed for power, had confessed to their misdeeds and lost the moral right to represent the Panth. Clear orders were issued from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to recruit workers anew and foster fresh leadership. In light of those orders, the regional Panthic party, Shiromani Akali Dal (Punarsurjit), was revived on August 11, 2025. New leadership was brought forward during the general assembly held at that time, and all participating leaders fully agreed with the entire sequence of events.
Giani Harpreet Singh expressed these views while addressing a meeting of senior party leaders. He stated that Shiromani Akali Dal (Punarsurjit) continues to stand firm today on the same principles of Sri Akal Takht Sahib under which it was revived. The significance of edicts (Hukamnamas) issued from the Takht of Miri Piri does not lessen over time to the extent that listeners start acting on their own whims, or retract their confessed misdeeds after seeing large gatherings, or label their religious penance as a conspiracy for their political destruction.
Giani Harpreet Singh further added that those involved in this entire episode should not forget that they went to Sri Akal Takht Sahib on their own accord. There, they admitted in writing to their involvement or silent complicity in misdeeds committed out of personal ambitions while in power. It was solely because of taking action on their written confession that three Singh Sahibs were humiliated and removed from their positions. He remarked: "I know that those who, instead of standing with the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, looked toward different political hearths for personal gain—how will they ever value the sacrifice made by the three Singh Sahibs for upholding principles?"
This party was launched after offering prayers (Ardas) at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and the leaders present during that prayer took an oath of loyalty toward the party. Those who now backtrack from their commitment made before the Guru out of greed for power will have to answer both to the world and before the Guru. He stated that accepting the slavery of a fugitive from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, an individual, or a specific faction cannot be termed as Panthic unity. Panthic unity is maintained only by remaining obedient to the Guru's command. An alliance formed solely with an eye on elections can never constitute national or Panthic unity.
Concluding his statement, Giani Harpreet Singh encouraged the brave leaders and workers of the revived Akali Dal, emphasizing that the Kaum (Sikh nation) is eternal and will continue to abide by the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib long after elections are over. However, those forming alliances out of greed for power will turn into even greater adversaries toward one another after facing defeat. Therefore, stand firm on Sikh principles and values—the Panth thrives through its glorious traditions.
