Mohali -Misl Satluj Party President Sardar Ajaypal Singh Brar has strongly condemned the Punjab government’s action of shutting down the party’s social media pages, describing it as an attack on democratic values and the constitutional freedom of expression.
Sardar Brar said that the Misl Satluj Party had contributed actively and firmly to the Punjab Bandh call given on October 15 in protest against the killing of Sardar Parminder Singh Jhotta. He asserted that in any democratic system, citizens have the constitutional right to raise their voice, oppose government policies, and express dissent peacefully.
Expressing regret, he said that shutting down the social media pages of a party that had raised its voice against a grave incident was deeply concerning for the democratic environment. He stated that social media today serves as a vital medium for reaching people, sharing views, and creating awareness on public issues. Restrictions on such platforms, he added, create the impression of an attempt to suppress the people’s voice.
Sardar Ajaypal Singh Brar appealed to the Punjab government to demonstrate tolerance toward dissenting opinions, respect democratic rights, and immediately restore the Misl Satluj Party’s social media pages. He made it clear that raising a voice for people’s rights, justice, and Punjab’s pressing issues is a fundamental duty of any democratic organisation, and no attempt to silence such a voice can be tolerated.
The party president has previously criticised the government over law-and-order concerns following Parminder Singh Jhotta’s killing, and reports indicate that Misl Satluj’s Instagram handle has been blocked in India.
