New Delhi-Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Sardar Harmeet Singh Kalka and veneral secretary Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon today addressed a joint press conference concerning the controversy surrounding the sanctity and decorum of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Both leaders asserted that gurdwaras are institutions devoted to humanitarian service, compassion, and collective welfare, but warned that any attempt to exploit the sacred premises for political purposes would be firmly resisted.

Both dsgmc leaders explained that, owing to Bangla Sahib’s proximity to Jantar Mantar, the gurdwara has long served as a refuge and support centre for people arriving from distant places to participate in demonstrations. Both said that in accordance with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, every visitor is served without discrimination. Protesters have previously been provided with langar, accommodation, and essential assistance, reflecting the committee’s enduring commitment to humanity.

However, they alleged that during Saturday’s demonstration, certain individuals attempted to enter the gurdwara carrying banners and placards while raising slogans. Both leaders said that when sevadars requested them to respect the sanctity of the shrine, tensions reportedly escalated. The leaders claimed that some people had entered under the guise of devotees with the intention of conducting political activities and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere.

They further alleged that video footage and other evidence had raised questions regarding links between some protesters and the Aam Aadmi Party. A complaint has reportedly been submitted to parliament street Police against Arvind Kejriwal and others.

Kalka and Kahlon emphasised that everyone is welcome to pray, seek blessings, and partake in langar, but no religious institution may be converted into a political platform. They appealed to all protesters to demonstrate peacefully at designated locations and urged the Sikh community to safeguard the dignity, purity, and traditions of gurdwaras.
