Sri Amritsar-Bibi Roop Kaur, who had announced on social media that she would visit the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib at a time fixed by her own accord, today submitted a representation addressed to Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj at the Secretariat.
Secretariat, Akal Takht Sahib in-charge Bagicha Singh received the letter and facilitated a telephonic conversation between Bibi Roop Kaur and the Jathedar.
In her representation, Bibi Roop Kaur levelled allegations against certain individuals but did not attach any evidence or pen drive containing supporting material. When asked about the evidence, she said she and some women who were allegedly victims wanted to meet the Jathedar in person and submit the evidence to him. Bagicha Singh told her that a meeting would be arranged soon after obtaining an appointment from the Jathedar.
Regarding the alleged threats being issued to Bibi Roop Kaur and the women in contact with her to prevent them from visiting Sri Akal Takht Sahib, she was advised to lodge a police complaint without delay so that action could be taken against those issuing the threats.
Bagicha Singh said Sri Akal Takht Sahib takes strict action against Sikhs who act contrary to Sikh Rehat Maryada (code of conduct) and religious discipline. He said appropriate and stringent action would be taken in religious matters if Bibi Roop Kaur presented substantive facts. He also clarified that if any matter involved a criminal offence, the concerned victim should lodge a police complaint without delay.
Bagicha Singh further clarified that earlier the Jathedar had given Bibi Roop Kaur an appointment to meet him at the Secretariat on October 3, but she could not attend that day due to her certain reasons. He said she had been clearly informed that anyone wishing to meet the Jathedar must first obtain an appointment and should not announce a meeting time independently.
