Mohali - Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh today inaugurated a drinking water project at the UGSR in Phase 8 Industrial Area, Mohali, by pressing a button. The foundation stone of the project had also been laid by the MLA on February 28, 2024.
Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Kulwant Singh said the project, constructed by the Mohali Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 2.31 crore, has a capacity of 5.40 lakh gallons. With the commissioning of the project, canal water supply will be made available to the industrial areas of Phase 8 and 8-B.
He said the UGSR would receive 1.121 MGD of canal water daily from the water treatment plant at village Shrepur.
The MLA said the availability of canal water would reduce dependence on tubewells and help conserve groundwater. “Water is a precious gift of nature and everyone must use it judiciously. Unnecessary wastage of water should be avoided, ” he said.
Kulwant Singh said the project had been completed and dedicated to the people within a year, adding that this demonstrated the government's commitment to completing projects within stipulated timelines.
He said the Aam Aadmi Party government had been committed to fulfilling the promises made to people on time and resolving public issues without unnecessary delay.
The MLA thanked Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana, Senior Deputy Mayor Rajinder Prasad Sharma, Deputy Mayor Harpal Singh Channa, Commissioner Sandeep Singh and the entire team of officials of the Mohali Municipal Corporation for ensuring the timely completion and commissioning of the project. He also congratulated them on the project.
Kulwant Singh further said that an additional 20 MGD of water from Kajauli would soon become available for Mohali, which would result in the city having surplus drinking water.
