Our fight is to defeat BJP, AAP, Akalis: Baghel

Kaumimarg Bureau | August 01, 2026 07:00 PM

PATIALA- AICC general secretary in charge for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel today said that the Chief Minister and other ministers will be chosen by the Congress high command including the president Mallikarjun Kharge and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
He said, the duty of the Congress leaders and workers is to ensure the victory of the party as Punjab needs to be saved from the misrule of the Aam Aadmi Party government.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring expressed his profound wish to see the Congress Chief Minister and ministers taking oath while he would be watching from the audience.
Addressing the ‘Harr Booth Mazboo’ programme for the Patiala district here today, Bhupesh Bahel exhorted the party workers to unite and fight the corrupt and incompetent AAP and the fascist BJP. He said the elections might be preponed and even if these are held on schedule in February, they are not very far off either.
Emphasising the importance of micromanagement at the booth level, he said, once the party is strong at the booth level, nobody can defeat it.
He said, for the first time, it is going to be a five-cornered contest in Punjab between the Congress, the AAP, the BJP and multiple factions of the Akalis.
Baghel cautioned the Congress workers against the rumour mongering by the BJP and the AAP, saying both have expertise in it. He said, it was the duty of every Congressman to counter their fake and false propaganda.
Asserting that the workers were the backbone of the party, he noted that is why Rahul Gandhi describes workers as lions and not the leaders. “Most important, the booth worker is the frontline and foot soldier of the party”, he said, while adding, the Congress workers must list the party’s achievements and the failures of the BJP at the centre and the AAP in the state.
He said, Punjab was faced with a double whammy at the hands of the central and the state governments. He said, the law and order had completely collapsed in Punjab and nobody was feeling safe. He said, ransoms were demanded at liberty and people were killed without any fear of law.
Baghel reminded Punjabis how the BJP’s troll army maligned them during the farmers’ agitation in which 700 farmers lost their lives. He recalled how the BJP troll army would describe the protestors as anti-nationals and Khalistanis.
He also asked the workers not to underestimate the power of social media, pointing out how Prime Minister Narendra Modi was made to bow for the first time in 12 years and make his minister resign.
Making a fervent call for unity in the party, he said, there can be differences within a party like within a family, but the actual fight is against the BJP, the AAP and the Akalis.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring reiterated and reaffirmed his profound gratitude to the party for giving him everything. He said, now his profound wish is to see the Congress Chief Minister taking oath while he will watch from the audience.
He said, he had no hesitation in saying that all the senior leaders of the party including Partap Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi, Ms Rajinder Kumar Bhattal, Brahm Mohindra and others were far better and far more competent than him.
Warring assured the workers that very soon all the senior leaders will be seen on a single platform.
Expressing confidence that the Congress was set to win the Vidhan Sabha elections, he said, “we won seven out of 13 Lok Sabha seats against all odds and we will not only repeat the feat but improve it in the Vidhan Sabha”.
Among those present on the occasion included Brahm Mohindra, Randeep Nabha, Hardayal Kambhoj, Rajinder Singh, Gurinder Dhillon, Vishnu Sharma, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Dr Amar Singh, Gurdharshan Singh, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Mohit Mohindra, Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Shubham Sharma, Sanjeev Bittu, Amarjit Kaur and others.
