Lambi- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today distributed 600 quintals of wheat to 140 affected families of Gurusar, Pakki Tibbi, and Kabarwala villages of Lambi constituency, whose standing wheat crop was destroyed in a devastating fire two months back.
The SAD president had visited the affected farmers following the fire in their fields and assured them that the SAD would make good their losses.
Speaking to newsmen on the occasion, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “even though we have fulfilled our commitment by performing this sewa it is disheartening to witness the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government shirking its responsibility towards the farmers be it compensating them for fire losses or for losses due to hailstorms this year or complete destruction of standing paddy crop due to widespread flooding last year. As far as the SAD is concerned we will continue to stand with farmers and help them in their time of need”.
Earlier on Friday, Mr Badal distributed 300 quintals of wheat to farmers of Gandhar village in Malout, whose standing crops were devastated due to hailstorm.
The affected farmers thanked the SAD president profusely on the occasion even as they asserted they had not received any compensation from the AAP government.
Answering a query, Mr Badal said the revised land pooling scheme was nothing but another crude attempt to rob farmers of their land by hook or by crook. He said cosmetic changes had been made vis a vis the old land pooling scheme which had already been rejected by the farmers. “The government is trying to bulldoze the new scheme under pressure from Arvind Kejriwal who wants to reward his cronies with whom illegal deals were struck last year”. He said the SAD would oppose this new move tooth and nail and would not let it succeed.
