Chandigarh- Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal today demanded that the Anti-Sacrilege Bill passed by the Vidhan Sabha in 2016 during the tenure of the Shiromani Akali Dal government, which was still awaiting approval of the central government, be ratified immediately.

Speaking in parliament, Mrs Harsimrat Badal came down heavily on the Congress and it’s State President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring who proudly referred to former prime minister Indira Gandhi his mother. While describing the Indira Gandhi ordered attack on Sri Darbar Sahib as the biggest sacrilege ever, Mrs Badal said “hundreds of holy Granths were destroyed but Raja Warring has never spoken on this issue, forget seeking justice for the same”.

Mrs Badal said the Aam Aadmi Party was also responsible for bringing in targetted sacrilege of holy scriptures to foment trouble and divide society. She detailed how immediately after the entry of AAP in Punjab sacrilege incidents started. “Till now 597 sacrilege cases have been recorded in the State during the last ten years during the tenure of the Congress and AAP governments but there have been only 44 convictions, which is a seven per cent success rate”.

The Bathinda MP also called for the release of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana who is in jail for 30 years now. She reminded the centre that the home ministry had approved the commutation of Bhai Rajoana’s death sentence to life imprisonment as a humanitarian gesture on the 550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev ji. She also spoke on how the Supreme Court had asked the centre to take a decision on Bhai Rajoana’s release and urged that this be done immediately.
