Chandigarh-Keeping in view of sentiments of the Sikh community, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that no meaningful decision has yet been taken by the BJP government for changing the title of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ for the Sahibzadas of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Despite this, today the BJP posted a cartoon of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his four Sahibzadas, which reflects a matter of hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
Speaker Sandhwan said that respect for Sikh Gurus, Sahibzadas and Sikh martyrs is inextricably linked to the ethics, traditions and history of Sikhism. It is unacceptable to present these great personalities in any kind of cartoon, symbolic or undignified form.
He emphasized that the efforts being made by the central government to honour Sikh Gurus and martyrs can only be proved meaningful if Sikh intellectuals, historians and prominent religious institutions are consulted before issuing any kind of religious decisions.
He said that the Sikh community is extremely sensitive towards its religious identity, history and martyrdoms and it is very important that this sensitivity should be fully respected.
