Chandigarh-Aam Aadmi Party Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal launched a sharp attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia during a press conference today.
Dhaliwal called the rejection of Majithia’s bail application a major setback for the Akali Dal. He said that the “little bit left” Akali Dal, led by Sukhbir Badal, must have felt a severe shock upon hearing this news. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has outright rejected the bail plea of their senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Dhaliwal said that the court not only dismissed the application but also stated that the evidence presented by the police is extremely serious.
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that leaders of the Akali Dal and Majithia’s supporters were repeatedly making noise that the Bhagwant Mann government was indulging in political vendetta and high-handedness. Today, the Honourable High Court has endorsed the government’s action by asserting that the charges against Majithia are valid. Evidence of transactions worth ₹540 crore was presented in the court. After a detailed 15-day-long hearing, the court delivered this verdict. Dhaliwal said the Akalis always try to hide behind the same excuse of “political vendetta”, but today the truth stands exposed.
Recalling the background of the case, the AAP MLA said that he wanted to take people back to the earlier chapters of this matter. In 2012-13, when Parkash Singh Badal was Chief Minister, drug smuggler Bhola had stated before a Mohali court that Majithia was involved in this dark drug trade.
Dhaliwal expressed regret, saying that had Majithia been arrested and jailed at that time, thousands of youth of Punjab could have been saved. From that period to the later Congress “chacha-bhatija" government, this business continued fearlessly. These governments pushed Punjab’s youth into death and Majithia built an empire worth ₹540 crore by making money over their dead bodies. Dhaliwal questioned where this money came from and said this was drug money.
Dhaliwal said that those who used to take false oaths on Sri Gutka Sahib claiming they would break the backbone of the drug trade neither broke the backbone nor the leg of the drug mafia; instead, they themselves later became the “chacha-bhatija" duo. If anyone has had the courage to act against Majithia, it is only the Bhagwant Mann government. He said Majithia is now reaping what he sowed. When punishment is finally handed down in this case, thousands of mothers who lost their sons to drugs will get some peace.
Dhaliwal said that because of the terror of drugs, parents were forced to send their children abroad, which brain drained Punjab and accelerated migration. Today, the country’s judicial system has rekindled hope among the people. Influential individuals like Majithia, who once claimed that “no one can touch us”, are now caught in the clutches of the law. This decision will serve as the final nail in the coffin of the diminishing Akali Dal.
