Sri Amritsar- Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, honoured 18-year-old Gursikh girl Gursharan Kaur Bandala, who set a record by writing eight poems in one and a half minutes. The honour was conferred at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, where she was presented with a siropao (robe of honour) and a Sri Sahib (sword). On this occasion, Gursharan Kaur also presented Jathedar Gargajj with a book containing her own poems.
It is noteworthy that in recent days, Gursharan Kaur had written eight poems on the spot with a pen within one and a half minutes, earning her a place in the India Book of Records. She is the first Gursikh and turbaned girl in the world to achieve such a feat.
Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj said that the First Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in His divine Gurbani, emphasized the dignity and rights of women. Gurbani also records the service rendered by Mata Khivi Ji. Similarly, throughout Sikh history, women have made significant contributions.
He added that even today, many of our daughters, by following the teachings of the Gurus, uphold their Sikh identity and enhance the glory of Sikhi in various fields. Gursharan Kaur Bandala, by maintaining her Sikh identity, has created a record in poetry writing which serves as an inspiration for the youth.
The Jathedar further said that, as a Gursikh daughter, Gursharan Kaur was honoured with a siropao from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to encourage her. He prayed before the Guru Sahib to bless her with greater success, and hoped that many more Gursikh daughters would draw inspiration from her and excel in their respective fields while bringing glory to Sikhi.
He also remarked that although this girl does not have the support of her parents over her head, under the protection and shelter of the Akal Purakh, she is still achieving great milestones.
