Patiala- Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, the sitting Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Patiala, has written to the Prime Minister, urging the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, which was closed in May 2025 due to skirmishes between India and Pakistan.
As a member of Parliament's Standing Committees on Railways and Health and Family Welfare, Dr Gandhi highlighted numerous appeals from his constituents and Punjabis across the state, particularly Sikhs, who are eager to visit Kartarpur Sahib. This sacred site holds profound significance as the place where Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the last 18 years of his life.
In his letter, Dr Gandhi emphasized that the corridor, inaugurated in 2019 to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, stands as a powerful symbol of peace and religious unity. Its closure denies devotees their right to pay respects and maintain a spiritual connection with this revered site.
Dr Gandhi urged the Government of India to take immediate steps to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, restoring access for pilgrims. He noted that timely action would uphold the values of religious freedom and interfaith harmony.
