Amritsar :

The first Prakash Purb (Enshrinement Day) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was celebrated with devotion and respect by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). As per the Sikh tradition, after the bhog (culmination) of Sri Akhand Patth Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib, a Nagar Kirtan (procession) was decorated and carried to Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib.

Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib is that historical shrine where the fifth Guru Arjan Dev Ji had compiled the Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1604 AD.

Before the Nagar Kirtan under the auspices of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and leadership of Panj Piaras (five beloved ones), the hazuri raagi jathas connected the Sangat (congregation) with Gurbani Kirtan and after the ardas (prayer) Giani Jagtar Singh, head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib recited the holy hukamnama. At the departure of the Nagar Kirtan, Giani Jagtar Singh and SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur honoured Panj Piaras, Nishanchi Singhs (those who carry Nishan Sahib) and Nagarchi Singhs (those who beat drums and sound Narsinghas) with the Guru’s blessings Siropaos (robes of honour).

Sharing his views at the congregation held earlier, Giani Jagtar Singh congratulated the Sikh world on the first Prakash Gurpurab and shared the history of the day.

“After compilation of Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the first Parkash was done at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib on this day, and in the memory of the same, the Sangat carry outs the Nagar Kirtan every year as per Panthic tradition. I appeal to the Sangat to adhere to the principles of Gurbani and encourage the children to become proficient in Gursikhi'', said Giani Jagtar Singh.

SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur also congratulated the Guru Nanak’s devoted Sangat on the first Prakash Purb and appealed to them to follow the teachings of holy Gurbani. She said that Guru Granth Sahib Ji embraces the whole world and guides man in every aspect of life.

During Nagar Kirtan, Sikh youths performed Gatka (Sikh martial arts) and many groups sang Gurbani verses to express their devotion. Meanwhile, the Langars of various delicacies were also set-up by the devotees at various places.

In the Nagar Kirtan, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur, SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, general secretary Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, and several SGPC executive committee members, members and officials were also present.

Beautiful grandeur and floral decoration became centre of attraction

On the occasion of the first Prakash Purb, beautiful grandeurs were decorated at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib. Apart from this, the floral decoration at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib was also captivating.
