Mohali:
Charanjit Singh Walia, President, Nursing Training Institutes Association, Punjab and Chairman, Mata Sahib Kaur College of Nursing, has said that at a time when health experts are warning that corona is on the rise due to increasing pollution in winter, the risk of an epidemic may increase with firecrackers. So Punjab government should ban firecrackers immediately.
In a meeting of the organization it was also decided that all the Nursing Institutes of Punjab would celebrate Green Diwali and help the needy.
Charanjit Singh Walia said that the Chandigarh administration has already banned firecrackers and Haryana government has banned firecrackers in the entire state including Panchkula. Similarly in the national capital, Delhi crackers have been banned so why is Punjab lagging behind when this matter is directly related to the health and life of the people.
Mr. Walia said that Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had taken the first steps to control the Corona epidemic which had been adopted by the entire country. Therefore banning of firecrackers is also a need of this time which should be decided by the Chief Minister immediately.
He said that Deputy Commissioners in different districts of Punjab were issuing licenses to the firecracker makers and also licenses have been issued for the sale of firecrackers in Mohali. He demanded that the Punjab government should immediately issue an order to revoke these licenses and ban the crackers completely so that the epidemic could be brought under control.
He said that he has been inspiring his college students to celebrate Green Diwali for the last two years to get relief from pollution. He also appealed to the heads of all educational institutions, schools, and colleges to celebrate Diwali in a proper and meaningful manner and not to jeopardize the health of the people.
