Jhajjar Proton Therapy, a costly treatment for cancer patients will soon come into effect at newly built National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Haryana's Jhajjar district, making it the first government-run hospital to offer the service.

Dr GK Rath, Head IRCH AIIMS and NCI told IANS that the service will be rolled out after 18 months at a minimal charge.

"So far, only Apollo Chennai has Proton Therapy treatment and the cost of it is Rs 25 lakh. At NCI, it will be given for a minimal charge while those under PMJAY can avail the service for free of cost," he said.

New Delhi, Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said that the Centre has decided to set up a new AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Haryana, taking the count to 22 across the country.

"Fourteen of the 21 AIIMS operating or being established in the country presently have been announced since 2014," Goyal said, while presenting the Interim Budget 2019-20 in the Lok Sabha

Chandigarh, Establishing it grip on state politics just ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Haryana's ruling BJP won the Jind Assembly seat in a multi-cornered contest on Thursday by 12,935 votes.

BJP candidate Krishan Lal Middha was declared elected after getting 50,566 votes. The winner will have a tenure of only nine months before the next Assembly polls.

This is the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the Jind assembly seat, making a new beginning in this "Jat" land seat.

Jind Haryana's Jind Assembly seat's multi-cornered by-election registered an over 50 per cent voter turnout by 2 p.m. on Monday, officials said.

The bye-election was necessitated after the death of INLD legislator Hari Chand Middha in August 2018.

There was no untoward incident anywhere in the constituency, District Electoral Officer Amit Khatri told reporters here.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal campaigned for Digvijay Chautala, the candidate of the newly formed Jannayak Janta Party (JJP).

Chandigarh, Haryana INLD legislator Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, passed away on Saturday at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) after battling cancer for the last few months.

Sandhu, 63, was elected on the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) ticket from the Pehowa assembly seat in the October 2014 assembly elections.

Gurugram Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesady announced 'Shaurya Award' to students in the name of 71 personnel of the state police force who laid down their lives while protecting society and maintaining law and order in the state.

Under this award, a prize money of Rs 11,000 in memory of a police martyr will be given to a student for courageous deeds every year in a village block where the school is located and where a martyr studied during his childhood.

Chandigarh, A special CBI court in Haryana's Panchkula town on Friday convicted Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Three others, who were close aides of the sect chief, were also convicted by the court.

Krishan Lal, Kuldeep and Nirmal, who were present in the court, were immediately taken into custody by the police and shifted to the Ambala jail.

Panchkula The son of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati, who was murdered by aides of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in 2002, on Friday demanded capital punishment for the disgraced self-styled godman.

After a special CBI court here convicted Ram Rahim and three others in the murder case of the journalist, his son Anshul Chhatrapati told media: "Such a man is not fit to live in our society. We demand that he should be given capital punishment."

A division bench, which saw the sealed copy of the report, said that the Commission's report could not be implemented as such.
