Amritsar- Operation Walk Mid Atlantic, in collaboration with Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences , has successfully performed 53 knee replacement surgeries free of cost for underprivileged patients, reaffirming the commitment of both organisations to accessible, equitable, and compassionate healthcare.

As part of this humanitarian initiative, all expenses associated with the treatment were covered, including the cost of the surgical procedures, implants, medicines for one month following discharge, and walkers to facilitate post-operative mobility and rehabilitation. Zimmer Biomet implants were used for the knee replacement procedures.
A delegation of 49 members from Operation Walk Mid Atlantic travelled from the United States to participate in this collaborative programme. The team comprised doctors, nurses, physical therapists and volunteers, who worked in close coordination with the SGRDUHS medical professionals to ensure the effective delivery of patient care.
The successful execution of the programme was supported by the dedicated efforts of the Department of Orthopaedics and the Department of Anaesthesiology at SGRDUHS. The faculty members, medical professionals, and supporting staff of both departments worked tirelessly in coordination with the visiting team, contributing significantly to the successful completion of the surgical procedures.
The initiative reflects the vision and leadership of Dr. Harpal Khanuja of Operation Walk Mid Atlantic and Dr. A.P. Singh, Dean of Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences. Their commitment to humanitarian service and institutional collaboration has been instrumental in facilitating this initiative, extending access to essential orthopaedic treatment for economically disadvantaged patients.
The collaboration represents a significant example of international medical cooperation, bringing together clinical expertise, institutional resources, and a shared commitment to serving underserved communities. By providing comprehensive surgical treatment and essential post discharge support without financial cost to the beneficiaries, the programme seeks to reduce barriers to healthcare and support patients in their recovery and rehabilitation.
