Sri Amritsar- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member S. Jaswant Singh Purain had recently met Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh, who was declared a “Guru Dokhi and Khalsa Panth Virodhi” by Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 15, 2026. Following the meeting, he was directed by Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj to personally appear within 10 days and submit his explanation. He was also barred from attending SGPC meetings.
Today on October 7, 2026, S. Jaswant Singh Purain appeared at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and submitted his explanation and apology to Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj.
S. Purain admitted before the Jathedar that meeting “Guru Dokhi and Khalsa Panth Virodhi” chief minister Bhagwant Singh, was a major mistake and said he realised the same. He said there was no wrong intention behind the meeting and that his motive was in the interest of the Panth.
Expressing remorse, S. Purain sought forgiveness and said he would accept whatever decision was taken by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He also requested that he be awarded tankhah (religious penance) for the mistake so that he could move forward with a clear conscience and without any burden on his mind.
S. Bagicha Singh, in-charge of the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, said the explanation and apology submitted by S. Purain would be considered at a meeting of the Panj Singh Sahibans, following which a decision would be taken.
