Mohali -President of Misl Satluj Party, Sardar Ajaypal Singh Brar, has taken a strong stand on the issue of reservation for SC and BC categories in teaching posts at Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, stating that constitutional rights cannot be kept pending for years and that further delay is unacceptable.
Sardar Brar said that candidates belonging to the SC and BC categories have been seeking their legitimate entitlement to reservation in teaching posts at PAU for a long time, yet the issue has still not been resolved conclusively. He pointed out that, in 2016, a protest over the issue had continued for more than a month outside the university gate. He added that despite a written assurance at the time, the matter remains unresolved nearly a decade later, raising serious questions about accountability.
He said, “Reservation is neither charity nor a favour; it is a constitutional right. He further added that delaying the implementation of a legitimate right amounts to ignoring the principles of social justice.” He urged the PAU administration in unequivocal terms to end the policy of delay and indecision and take a clear and time-bound decision on the matter.
Sardar Brar said that, as one of Punjab’s premier institutions of higher education, PAU is expected to uphold the principles of social justice, equal opportunity and fair representation. He alsi added that the issue of representation in teaching positions is not merely about employment; it is also connected with educational opportunities for students and their confidence in the institution.
He further stated that if there are any legal, administrative or technical impediments in implementing reservation, the PAU administration should clearly place the position in the public domain. He said that “People do not need assurances anymore; they need a clear decision and its effective implementation, ” he said.
The Misl Satluj Party President urged the Punjab Government and PAU administration not to prolong the matter any further and to take a clear, time-bound and transparent decision after examining all relevant facts and applicable rules concerning the rights of SC and BC categories.
