Patiala -Director Generation of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited Er. Punnerdeep Singh Brar, today clarified reports being circulated on various social media platforms regarding the shutdown of power generation units at government thermal power plants, stating that the situation being portrayed in these reports is not factually accurate.
He said that all operational generation units of PSPCL are contributing towards meeting the state's power requirements as per their available capacity, and power supply is continuing smoothly across Punjab.
Er. Punnerdeep Singh Brar stated that earlier, one unit at the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Power Plant was shut down due to a technical fault, while one unit at the Ropar Thermal Power Plant had remained shut due to lower power demand. However, he clarified that all units at both Talwandi Sabo and Ropar Thermal Power Plants are presently generating power. He further explained that, depending upon the reduced power demand in the state, one unit at the Ropar Thermal Power Plant may be kept shut as part of demand-based generation management.
He categorically clarified that the shutdown of such units is not due to any shortage of power or any problem with power supply, but is based on the prevailing demand for electricity in the state.
He further stated that, under the additional power supply being provided to farmers by the State Government, farmers are currently receiving approximately 10 hours of power supply against the scheduled 8 hours. Besides this, there is no shortage in power supply to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, and uninterrupted power supply is being provided to all these categories.
Director Generation Er. Punnerdeep Sing Brar said that power supply is being efficiently managed by taking into account the demand and availability of electricity in the state. He added that PSPCL is continuously taking all necessary steps to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers across Punjab.
He said that under the directions of PSPCL CMD Sh. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS, the Corporation is fully committed to ensuring that the state's power supply system operates smoothly, continuously and efficiently.
Er. Punnerdeep Singh Brar also appealed to the public to verify any information regarding power generation units or power supply through official and authentic sources before believing or sharing it further.
