Chandigarh-A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab, led by State President Kewal Singh Dhillon, visited village Toor Banjara in Dirba and met the family of deceased labourer Gulzar Singh, who allegedly became a victim of the Aam Aadmi Party’s high-handedness. The delegation expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and raised its voice for justice. National Vice President of the BJP Manpreet Singh Badal, former State President Sunil Jakhar and former State President Ashwani Sharma were also present with Kewal Singh Dhillon. The BJP leaders met the victim’s wife and children and assured them of all possible assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, State President Kewal Singh Dhillon said that Gulzar Singh’s death was a “murder committed by the Punjab government.” The deceased labourer had raised the issue of drugs before a Punjab minister because his son was a victim of the drug menace and he was sharing his anguish. Instead of addressing the drug problem, the government allegedly tried to silence Gulzar Singh by intimidating and threatening him.
BJP President Dhillon also questioned the alleged treatment meted out to the family during the last rites. He said that according to the family, the deceased’s innocent children were not even allowed to have the last glimpse of their father, while his elderly mother was also allegedly prevented from seeing her son for the last time. If true, such conduct is extremely inhuman and insensitive.
He said that such behaviour reflects the extent of the government’s alleged oppression and shows how people’s human rights are being crushed through the use of force.
Kewal Singh Dhillon said that the Aam Aadmi Party government, which came to power claiming that drugs would be eliminated within four months, has allowed drugs to be sold “like toffees” from door to door across Punjab. First, drugs are destroying the youth of Punjab; then those who raise their voice against the drug menace are allegedly intimidated. If even after a person’s death, his family is denied justice and dignity, then what kind of rule of law is this?
S. Dhillon said that this is not merely a matter concerning one family, but a serious issue concerning the safety of ordinary people, human rights and democracy in Punjab. He said that injustice against any poor or Dalit family would not be tolerated.
He said that the BJP stands firmly with the victim’s family and will undertake every possible legal and democratic struggle to ensure justice for Gulzar Singh’s family.
He said that the entire matter should be investigated impartially by the CBI and, as demanded by the family, action should be taken against all those whom the deceased had held responsible for his death.
He said that the real face of the Aam Aadmi Party government, which makes tall claims about creating a ‘Rangla Punjab’, is now coming before the people of Punjab.
S. Dhillon said that the people of Punjab are watching everything and, in the coming time, they will certainly seek answers from this government on all these questions. He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to making Punjab drug-free and will not rest until the drug menace is eliminated.
