CHAWINDA DEVI-Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday tore into the Shiromani Akali Dal, pointing out its leadership of being “on its knees” to forge an alliance with the BJP in a bid to return to power and loot Punjab again, while asserting that the people of the state would never forgive the BJP-Akali combine for pushing Punjab into the drug menace and ruining the state. During a massive Lok Milni gathering at Chawinda Devi in Amritsar, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the people of Majitha were now ready to write a new political chapter, contrasting the previous regimes’ politics of “parche, gundagardi and fear” with his government’s record of delivering jobs, schools, hospitals, roads and development.
The Chief Minister also hit out at the Akalis over the beadbi (sacrilege) issue and their response to the attack on Sukhbir Badal, while highlighting that his government had provided 70, 000 government jobs solely on merit with “no cash, no farmaish” (no bribe, no recommendation) and transformed government schools to the extent that students were now qualifying JEE and NEET.
Sharing a few snippets from the gathering, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on X: “Today, the massive gathering of people at the sacred land of Chawinda Devi is proof that the people of Majitha Assembly constituency are now fully prepared to write a new chapter. Previous governments brought nothing but the politics of cases, hooliganism and fear to this region, whereas we are fulfilling our guarantees of better schools, hospitals, jobs and development across Punjab. A heartfelt thank you to the people of Majitha for this unprecedented love and steadfast support.”
Addressing the gathering during Lok Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Akali leadership, which had committed beadbi across the state, destroyed evidence related to its perpetrators and ordered firing on innocent people, besides committing several other sins, was now desperate to return to power in Punjab. “For this purpose, they are begging to join hands with the BJP leadership to plunder the state, but the wise people of Punjab will once again oust them. Punjabis will send the Akalis and BJP into political oblivion due to their sins against the state and its people, ” he said.
The Chief Minister said that the huge participation of people in the Lok Milni reflected their readiness to write a new story in 2027. “Earlier only one family ruled Punjab. They kept people as their slaves, treated them like animals and ruined countless families. However, after assuming office in 2022, our government focused on the holistic development of Punjab and initiated reforms in power, sports, education, health and other key sectors, ” he said.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that after four-and-a-half years in office, he was standing before the people after fulfilling every single promise and delivering every guarantee made to them. “I remind the people that earlier, on this sacred land of Majha, goons and anti-social elements ruled the roost. On one side were the Bajwas and on the other side were Valtoha and his notorious boss. A reign of terror prevailed and people lived in an atmosphere of fear and trauma. These people introduced drugs into Punjab and ruined generations of our youth, ” he added.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the people are well aware of the historical role played by certain political families in Punjab. “Everyone knows that this clan was a stooge of the Britishers and was conferred the title of Sir by them for hobnobbing against the patriots who fought for the country. This family hosted a dinner for General Dyer after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 13, 1919. That act exposed their anti-national and anti-Punjab mindset and character, ” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.
He said that lakhs of freedom fighters who fought against British rule had been betrayed by such actions. “Not only this, the family also ensured that General Dyer was bestowed a siropa and forgiveness at the Golden Temple. These leaders can never be forgiven because they were responsible for the genocide of several generations of Punjab. The drug trade was patronised by them and flourished during their long era of misrule, ” he said.
The Chief Minister said that during the previous regime, drugs were supplied in official vehicles, whereas today drug smugglers were being put behind bars.
Taking on both the Congress and Akali Dal, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said these parties had collectively damaged Punjab after Independence. “The Congress and Akali Dal were termites that ruined Punjab and caused the state to lag behind on the path of progress. Their leaders never speak against each other, but they spit venom against me every day because I have exposed them before the people. These are the traitors who have never been loyal to Punjab and its people, ” he said.
Lashing out at the Akali leadership, he said that Sukhbir Singh Badal remained disconnected from the realities of Punjab. “Throughout his life, Sukhbir Singh Badal has lived in a secured environment surrounded by luxuries and opulence. He is a convent-educated political leader who is not aware of the basic topography of Punjab but wants to attain political power here. Leaving everything aside, the former Deputy Chief Minister cannot even differentiate between the basic crops of the state because he has scant knowledge about the issues faced by ordinary people, ” he said.
Taking potshots at Congress, the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann pointed out that the party was on its death bed and would soon become politically irrelevant. “The Congress has no vision for Punjab or its people. Its only aim is to plunder the wealth of the state by assuming power, but those dreams will never be fulfilled. The Congress is a divided house and will collapse because of its infighting, ” he said.
During the Lok Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also announced a grant of Rs 58 lakh for the development of the area, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening local infrastructure and ensuring development reaches every corner of the constituency.
