Chandigarh, Aug 24 (IANS) The party will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and, by securing a victory, will form the government, said BJP national General Secretary B.L. Santosh on Monday.
“Punjab is fully ready for change, and the BJP is fully prepared to make this change a reality. In the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and, by securing a victory, will form its government in the state, ” he said. He was addressing the first zonal meeting held in Patiala on the first day of his two-day organisational visit to Punjab.
Earlier, Santosh was welcomed at the Mohali airport by state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state co-in-charge Narendra Singh Raina.
During his visit, Santosh will review the organisation’s activities and preparations for the Assembly elections through zonal meetings with party leaders and organisational office-bearers across different regions of the state. These meetings will focus particularly on strengthening the organisation up to the booth level and taking the party’s policies and the achievements of the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people.
Santosh chaired organisational meetings in Patiala and Bathinda. On August 25, zonal meetings will be held in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. A separate meeting with state General Secretaries will also be held in Amritsar. The objective of these meetings is to review the functioning of the organisation across different regions of Punjab and further strengthen organisational preparedness, coordination and the active participation of party workers at the grassroots.
At his last visit to Punjab on July 17, PM Modi, at the rally in Jalandhar, attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and criticised the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal, one of the oldest allies of the BJP.
The Akali Dal was among the first to support the 13-day Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, the shortest Prime Minister's stint in India's history, in 1996. However, it pulled out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in September 2020 after sharp differences emerged over the three controversial farm laws, now repealed.
