Chandigarh, July 14 (IANS) Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kewal Singh Dhillon said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate four redeveloped railway stations in the state under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on July 17 at around 3 p.m.
Dhillon said the Prime Minister will physically inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, while he will virtually dedicate to the nation the redeveloped S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) Railway Station, Sri Muktsar Sahib Railway Station, and Sri Anandpur Sahib Railway Station.
Describing the occasion as a landmark moment for Punjab's railway infrastructure, the State Punjab Chief said that these stations have been transformed into modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs equipped with world-class amenities while preserving their local heritage and architectural identity.
The redevelopment includes improved passenger facilities, better accessibility, enhanced waiting areas, modern concourses, upgraded platforms, lifts, escalators, and other commuter-friendly infrastructure.
Dhillon said that under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, Indian Railways is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, with the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aimed at redeveloping railway stations across the country into modern gateways that promote connectivity, tourism, trade, and economic growth.
The State BJP Chief added that the inauguration of these four stations reflects the Central government's unwavering commitment to strengthening infrastructure in Punjab and ensuring that the people of the state receive world-class public facilities.
He said the BJP-led Central government remained dedicated to the holistic development of Punjab through continuous investments in rail, road, and other critical infrastructure projects.
With Assembly elections some months away, Punjab BJP leaders are preparing for this visit and trying to project it as development-oriented.
In a Facebook post, Punjab BJP leaders welcomed PM Modi and projected this event as a milestone in their state.
It was pointed out that PM Modi had visited many other states in the past few years, but did not have the opportunity to come to Punjab and now he will have an opportunity to meet the people of Punjab.
The visit assumes significance given that political activities are in progress in Punjab, where parties have started taking steps to sharpen their electoral strategy for future elections.
For the BJP, whose journey as a political party in Punjab is quite recent compared to other states, and it has been depending on the political alliance for several decades in the state, this visit will give an opportunity to reach out to voters in Punjab with a development message.
Preparations for the visit at Jalandhar station are in full swing, with security arrangements being reviewed and logistics being put in place for the programme.
