Amritsar-The officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, has announced that a special religious gathering will be held on July 14, 2026, on the banks of the Satluj River at Harike Pattan, to offer Ardas  for the eternal peace of those innocent Sikh youths who were killed by the police at the behest of government of the time, and whose cases were brought to light by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra. The gathering will also pray for justice for the affected families.
Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj said that, to date, no collective Ardas has been held for the innocent youths, women, elderly people, and children who fell victim to government and police excesses in Punjab. He added that many grieving mothers and sisters still do not know what happened to their sons and brothers. He said that it is time for the world to learn what occurred in Punjab and for the victim families to receive justice.
The Jathedar extended an open invitation to all victim families, mothers, sisters, brothers, activists, lawyers, and individuals who have worked to defend human rights to participate in the event. He particularly invited those who suffered during and after the events of 1984, as well as the families for whom Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra fought. He also urged the families of victims in cases where the Central Bureau of Investigation court in Mohali has convicted police officials in connection with the killings of innocent youths to attend the gathering. He called upon the Sikh community to come together to recite Gurbani, participate in kirtan, and offer Ardas for the peace of the departed souls while praying to the Akal Purakh to grant strength to the victim families in their pursuit of justice.
Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj said that the prayer ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. on July 14, 2026, on the banks of the Satluj River at Harike Pattan, the location where the bodies of innocent youths who had been killed were reportedly disposed of in the river. He said prayers will be offered there for the peace of their souls and for justice for their families.
The event will be organized by Sri Akal Takht Sahib with the support of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. As part of the programme, Sri Guru Granth Sahib will be ceremonially enshrined in a Palki Sahib, followed by the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib, Gurbani kirtan, and Ardas.
