TANDA - Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today led his party workers in disassembling a broom as a mark of defiance and protest against the Aam Aadmi Party government jailing one of the party workers earlier for alleged disrespect to broom.
Warring also met the party worker Ashrdeep and his family members here today. Arshdeep had been arrested by the Punjab Police on the charges of “disrespecting” broom, the party symbol of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.
Warring expressed solidarity with Arshdeep and his family telling them the entire rank and file of the party stood by him. He pointed out, party workers across Punjab had staged massive protests against his arrest.
“The disassembling of brooms is just the beginning and it will end up in disassembling of the entire AAP by the next elections”, he asserted, while adding, “the AAP will just vanish in thin air in the 2027 elections”. He taunted the AAP leaders not to feel too "touchy" about the broom and take everything as disrespect.
He said the AAP’s hyper-reaction in ordering the arrest of Arshdeep for a routine protest reflected the level of insecurity it was suffering from as it was staring at an imminent defeat.
He strongly condemned the “dictatorial” and “authoritarian” action of the Punjab Police in arresting Arshdeep for a mere symbolic act of resistance. He said, such action against a Congress worker just because he had disassembled a broom, shows how frustrated and insecure the AAP government has become in Punjab.
Warring said, while the AAP had not taken any time in arresting Arshdeep, for what it felt disrespect to its party symbol, it had shown complete paralysis when it came to taking action against the sacrilege of holy Guru Granth Sahib.
He reminded the AAP and its leaders that they had promised to do justice in the case of sacrilege to Guru Granth Sahib within 24 hours and now they were in power for more than four years and still no action had been taken.
Warring asserted that the “disassembling” of the broom was just a beginning and it has already started haunting the AAP leaders. “Today people have started disassembling the broom only, which you take as disrespect, what will you do when they will completely through and kick you out of Punjab in the elections?” he asked the AAP leaders while telling them that their countdown had begun and no authoritarian or dictatorial action against the opposition can stop that.
The PCC president was accompanied by senior leaders of the party including Sangat Singh Gilzian and others.
