Punjabi Lane in Shillong belongs to indigenous Sikh community and will continue to remain theirs- Jathedar Gargajj

Shillong-Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, today met members of the Sikh community residing in Punjabi Lane in the city of Shillong, Meghalaya, and enquired about their well-being. On this occasion, Jathedar Gargajj also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar located there and visited the Guru Nanak School being run by the Gurdwara Management Committee.

During his interaction with the Sikhs of Punjabi Lane, Jathedar Gargajj listened to their concerns and reviewed the prevailing situation and conditions in the area. He said that the Sikhs living in Punjabi Lane are in high spirits and remain deeply connected with Sikh values and the Guru’s house.

He stated that Sikhs have been residing on the land of Shillong for centuries, and Punjabi Lane is the oldest area of Sikh settlement here. He added that Sikhs and Punjabis have earned recognition through their hard work and intelligence, while also making significant contributions to the development of Meghalaya and to social service.

Jathedar Gargajj said that the oldest gurdwara in Shillong, Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, reflects the Sikhs’ devotion and dedication towards the Guru. He emphasized that Punjabi Lane is the ancestral homeland of the Sikh community here and will continue to remain theirs, as the Sikhs living here are also residents of Meghalaya and Shillong.

On this occasion, S. Gurjeet Singh, President of the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar Management Committee, was also present.
