Chandigarh-Punjab’s Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, announced that “Punjab Sakhi Shakti Melas” will be organized across all districts of the state to provide a vibrant platform for women to showcase their skills, creativity, and handmade products. The first mela commenced today, November 26 in Sangrur at the Ranbir College Ground, and will continue till November 30.

These melas are being organized by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats in collaboration with the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Department of Industries and Commerce.

Starting from Sangrur on November 26, 2025, the “Punjab Sakhi Shakti Melas” will be held across 23 districts until February 2026. The melas will offer a wide array of products, including handicrafts, handloom garments, Phulkari, home décor items, organic food items, honey, spices, detergents, phenyl, and other household essentials. Various food stalls will also attract visitors throughout the event.

Sond stated that these melas aim to provide greater market access to the products crafted by women Self-Help Group (SHG) members, helping them increase their income. The initiative will also create direct linkages between rural producers and urban consumers. Punjab’s vibrant cultural heritage will also be highlighted through these melas, allowing the public to witness Punjabi craftsmanship, art forms, and organic produce from close quarters.

He added that this endeavour of the Punjab Government will not only strengthen women’s economic empowerment but will also help preserve and promote the cultural identity of the state.
