Chandigarh - Senior Akali leaders Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema today lashed out at former Jathedar Harpreet Singh for lowering the dignity of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib by openly defying the Hukamnama of the supreme religio-temporal authority issued on December 2 , 2024.
“It is unbelievable that Harpreet Singh is brazenly violating the Hukamnama which he had himself signed. He earns the notoriety of becoming the first ex Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to defy the highest seat of Miri Piri in Sikh religion, founded by the sixth Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib.”
Dubbing the faction as an “Agency Dal”, the leaders said “the faction of disgruntled elements adds a new chapter to the old conspiracy to divide and weaken Khalsa Panth and Punjab with the floating of a sponsored outfit of central agencies with their handpicked henchmen Harpreet Singh as its spearhead. He said that December 2 Hukamnama ordered Sikh leaders against floating separate factions against Shiromani Akali Dal. So clearly, Harpreet Singh and his gang have run away from this Hukamnama”.
Mr Maheshinder Grewal said that history is proof that whenever Khalsa Panth gears up to struggle against discrimination, some Trojan Horses always play Delhi’s game and set up parallel factions to oppose Akali Dal. "Now this conspiracy comes at a time when SAD is busy leading the Punjabis fight against Land Grabbing Policy and Sikh struggle on issues of the community".
Mr Grewal also asked Giani Harpreet to tell whether he had asked him on December 9, 2024 not to speak against the RSS while talking about enjoying a most amiable relationship with the organization? He also asked Giani Harpreet to tell what he had achieved during his seven year stint as the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib except for travelling on business class across the world and collecting money in the name of the Panth. “Giani Harpreet has also exposed his greed for power by going back on his statement that he would take up the leadership of the quom only if he was a unanimous choice of all factions”, he added.
Dr Daljit Cheema said Punjab was in the midst of a two pronged attack – one against its fertile land which was being acquired forcibly and the other against Sikh religious institutions. He said it was the first time in history that a person who had attained the very top post in Sikh affairs had now belittled himself by heading a small political faction. He asserted that this had been done at the instance of central forces which wanted to weaken the SAD. He also spoke on how Giani Harpreet had tried to destroy the legacy of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal by withdrawing the Fakhr-e-Kaum bestowed to him even though there was no complaint against the latter.
