Giani Raghbir Singh Should Not Have Turned to Worldly Court: Sarna

NEW DELHI- Delhi Akali chief Paramjit Singh Sarna has strongly criticised Giani Raghbir Singh, the Head Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, for seeking recourse in a worldly court.

“One must know the history of the position in which one serves, ” Sarna said, adding that those who hold such sacred offices must always remember the sacrifices and dedication of those who served before them.

Sarna charged that by approaching the court, Giani Raghbir Singh had effectively placed the revered office of Head Granthi itself in the dock, an office held in high esteem by Sikhs and Guru Nanak’s followers from around the world. “In doing so, he has diminished not only the dignity of the position but also his own stature, ” Sarna remarked.

He recalled that this was the very office once graced by Baba Buddha Sahib, who rendered lifelong service, and by Bhai Mani Singh Ji, who was martyred while in sewa. “No religious figure has the right to tear apart the honour, decorum, and guiding principles that define such an office, ” Sarna said.

Sarna urged SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami to take immediate notice of the matter. “Since Giani Raghbir Singh has chosen to stand in the dock of a court, he should be relieved of religious duties at once and reassigned to administrative work according to service rules, ” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Sarna warned that someone who, despite holding two of the Sikh Panth’s highest offices, has failed to grasp the honour and principles of Sikhi, risks setting a misguided example for the Sangat.
