Sri Amritsar-Under the patronage of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will organize a special Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) to mark the death anniversary of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Given that Sikh jathas (pilgrimage groups) from India are not visiting Pakistan this year, the commemorative event will take place near the Nishan Sahib at Hawa Mahal (Summer Palace) in Amritsar’s historic Rambagh on June 29, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The Samagam will begin with the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib, followed by Gurbani Kirtan and Kavishari (poetry) that will enlighten the congregation with Sikh history and spiritual teachings. The program will be graced by the presence of Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Jathedar Gargajj has extended a heartfelt invitation to the Sikh sangat (community) of Amritsar, Singh Sabhas, Sikh institutions, and student bodies to participate in large numbers. He thanked Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney for giving permission to organise this event.
Providing further details, Bagicha Singh, in-charge at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, said that the special Samagam has been planned following discussions with SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami by Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj. Under the directions of SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan and Secretary Partap Singh, the necessary permissions were secured from Amritsar Deputy Commissioner and logistical arrangements have been made in coordination with the Municipal Corporation and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI₹
He also acknowledged the active support of Amritsar Vikas Manch in organizing the event. On Thursday, the Manager of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Rajinder Singh Ruby, In-charge Harjeet Singh, and Ranjit Singh, along with office bearers of the Amritsar Vikas Manch — including Principal Kulwant Singh Ankhi, Surinderjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Rajvinder Singh, Jaspal Singh, Kanwaljeet Singh, Jatinder Pal Singh — and Heera Singh from the ASI, jointly inspected the site at Rambagh and finalized the arrangements.
Additionally, the SGPC will also hold Sri Akhand Path Sahib and a Gurmat Samagam at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, dedicated to Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s memory.
