New Delhi– The three-day 12th National Gatka (Men & Women) Championship organized by the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) concluded today at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, with enthusiastic participation of men and women Gatka teams from fourteen states comprising over 500 players.
Chief Guest Justice (Retd.) Talwant Singh, former Judge of Delhi High Court and guest of honour Bibi Ranjit Kaur, member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, presented medals and trophies to the winners. In his address Justice Talwant Singh exhorted Gatka players to prepare themselves as professional Gatkebaaz while preserving the cultural and martial heritage of this traditional Sikh martial art. He appreciated the efforts of the NGAI for organizing this grand event and promoting the historic sport nationally and internationally.
The NGAI president Harjeet Singh Grewal thanked all the participants, guests and officials for their support and cooperation in making the championship a grand success. On this occasion, Harmanpreet Singh Jolly, Dr Talwinderpal Singh Nalwa, and Sukhchain Singh Kalsani were also present.
In the overall results, Punjab girls clinched the overall trophy while Chandigarh was runner-up and Haryana secured third place. In the boys’ category, Punjab emerged as the overall champion, followed by Chhattisgarh as runners-up and Uttarakhand in third place. Among the special awardees, Ravleen Kaur from Chandigarh and Harmandeep Kaur from Punjab were honoured with the best player and best performance awards in the girls’ section. Sharry Singh from Punjab was declared best player in the boys’ section and Harsimran Singh from Punjab received the best performer award.
In boys U-14 single stick individual event, Gagandeep Singh from Uttarakhand won the gold medal, Noorpreet Singh secured silver and Mangesh from Maharashtra and Sukhmanpreet Singh from Punjab jointly won the bronze medal. In the boys U-14 single stick team event, Haryana won gold, Uttarakhand silver and Chhattisgarh and Chandigarh bagged bronze medals. In the U-14 farri stick individual event, Jagjot Singh of Uttarakhand won gold, Satwant Singh Khalsa from Chandigarh got silver and Ekamjot Singh and Sukhmanpreet Singh from Punjab won bronze medals. In the U-14 farri stick team event, Punjab won gold, Uttarakhand silver and Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu got bronze medals.
In boys U-17 single stick individual event, Samrath Singh of Chhattisgarh won gold, Rajvir Singh of Uttarakhand silver and Tanveer Singh from Punjab and Hardeep Singh from Telangana won bronze medals. In U-17 single stick team event, Punjab won gold, Haryana silver and Uttarakhand and Delhi got bronze medals. In U-17 farri stick individual event, Harshdeep Singh from Chhattisgarh won gold, Abhijot Singh from Uttarakhand silver and Angad Singh from Telangana and Angadvir Singh from Chandigarh won bronze medals. In U-17 farri stick team event, Punjab bagged gold, Chhattisgarh silver and Maharashtra and Uttarakhand got bronze medals.
In girls U-17 farri stick team event, Chandigarh won gold, Uttarakhand silver and Tamil Nadu and Punjab jointly secured bronze medals.
In boys U-19 single stick individual event, Harkirat Singh from Chhattisgarh won gold, Tejpartap Singh from Chandigarh silver and Sahibveer Singh from Punjab and Varispreet Singh from Haryana won bronze medals. In single stick team event, Punjab got gold, Delhi silver and Chandigarh and Chhattisgarh secured bronze medals.
In farri stick individual event, Gurlal Singh from Punjab got gold, Armaandeep Singh from Haryana silver and Sahib Singh from Uttarakhand and Jaskaran Singh from Chandigarh won bronze medals. In the farri stick team event, Haryana bagged gold, Punjab silver and Chhattisgarh and Chandigarh got bronze medals.
In boys U-22 single stick individual event, Maninder Singh from Punjab won gold, Sahib Singh from Delhi silver and N. Hari Haran from Tamil Nadu and Babanjot Singh from Chandigarh shared bronze medals. In single stick team event, Punjab got gold, Chhattisgarh silver and Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu won bronze medals. In farri stick individual event, Dilpreet Singh from Chandigarh won gold, Karanpreet Singh from Punjab silver and Dinesh from Tamil Nadu and Prabhjot Singh from Delhi won bronze medals. In farri stick team event, Punjab got gold, Uttarakhand silver and Bihar and Chandigarh won bronze medals.
In girls U-22 farri stick individual event, Punjab secured gold, Chandigarh silver and Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh won bronze medals.
In boys U-25 single stick individual event, Sharry Singh from Punjab won gold, D. Alien from Tamil Nadu silver and Naresh Kumar from Rajasthan and Gurtaj Singh from Chhattisgarh got bronze medals. In single stick team event, Punjab won gold, Chhattisgarh silver and Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu got bronze. In farri stick individual event, Harsimar Singh from Punjab bagged gold, Pakshdeep Singh from Himachal Pradesh silver and Kudrat Singh from Chhattisgarh and Rajpal from Rajasthan won bronze. In farri stick team event, Punjab got gold, Himachal Pradesh silver and Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh bronze medals.
