Bajwa strongly condemns tear gas shells fired against farmers

Chandigarh-The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana government on Friday in the strongest possible terms for using excessive police force and firing tear gas shells to prevent the farmers of Punjab from peacefully marching to Delhi.

Notably, a group of 101 farmers from Punjab, named Marjeevda Jatha, today began its foot march to Delhi to press the BJP-led Union government for their genuine demands, including the legalization of the Minimum Support Price (MSP). They once again faced the Haryana Police cruelty at the Shambhu border.

"Heavy police deployment has been made at all the critical points since yesterday by the Haryana government. Tear gas shells have been fired at the farmers, who started their scheduled march to Delhi. Several farmers have been injured in this barbaric action of the Haryana police, " Bajwa added.

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that following the footsteps of the previous Mohan Lal Khattar government, the tyrant Haryana government led by Nayab Singh Saini has been bent on stifling the peaceful protest of the farmers, which is a highly undemocratic move, " Bajwa said.

"The Haryana government must understand that the farmers are not protesting in their state. They are using Haryana as a route to reach out to Delhi. One may wonder why the Haryana government has been perturbed by the same, " said Bajwa.

Bajwa said that every Indian citizen has the right to protest peacefully in their capital and make their voices heard. Meanwhile, what the autocratic BJP government in Haryana has done is deplorable.

"It is not only the Punjabi farmers, who will reap the benefits of the legalization of MSP, but the farmers of the entire country including Haryana, who have been in knee-deep crisis, will get a sigh of relief, " said Bajwa.
