Haryana Government Urges Farmers to Avoid Crop Burning, Offers Subsidies for Residue Management

Chandigarh (kaumimarg): The Haryana government has called on farmers to avoid burning paddy residue after harvest, emphasizing that crop residue burning leads to severe air pollution and depletes soil nutrients. Instead, officials suggest that farmers incorporate crop residue directly into the soil to improve fertility and support cleaner air.

To encourage this shift, the state has launched the *Haryana Parali Protsahan Yojana 2024-25*. Under this program, farmers receive a subsidy of ₹1, 000 per acre for managing crop residue, provided they register by November 30 on the *Meri Fasal Mera Byora* portal. Additionally, the state’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has been running awareness campaigns on crop burning’s environmental impact, informing farmers of both the harmful effects and available solutions.

The initiative offers subsidized agricultural tools like super seeders, zero-tillage machines, and straw choppers to help farmers manage residue more sustainably.
