Marriage Registration Now Easier in Haryana

Kaumimarg Bureau | June 12, 2024 08:16 PM

Chandigarh - In a significant move to streamline and simplify the marriage registration process, the Haryana Government has introduced new measures aimed at making the procedure more accessible and efficient for its residents. As part of this initiative, the government has expanded the list of officials authorized to act as Marriage Registrars in the state.

The newly nominated Marriage Registrars in rural areas now include the City Magistrate (CTM), Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Block Development Panchayat Officer (BDPO), and Gram Sachiv. This expansion aims to decentralize the process and bring registration services closer to the people, particularly benefiting those in remote and rural regions.

A spokesperson for the Citizen Resources Information Department said that the state government has issued a notification to this effect. This change allows individuals to register their marriages at the local level through Gram Sachiv, BDPO, Naib Tehsildar, Tehsildar, and City Magistrate, providing greater convenience. Previously, only the Tehsildar had the authority to register marriages in rural areas.

For urban areas, the designated marriage registrars will now include the Joint Commissioner, Executive Officer, Secretary of the Municipal Committee, Tehsildar, and Naib Tehsildar. Citizens can now register their marriages at nearby government offices through these officials, reducing travel time and increasing convenience.

The spokesperson said that this expansion of marriage registrars will not only provide convenience but also save time for those registering their marriages. As of now, over 2.45 lakh marriages have been registered on the marriage registration portal https://shaadi.edisha.gov.in/. This includes 12, 416 marriages from December 2020 to April 2021, 56, 133 in 2021-22, 67, 604 in 2022-23, 83, 331 in 2023-24, and 26, 419 marriages from April 2024 to June 10, 2024.

The Haryana government launched the marriage registration portal in December 2020 as part of its Good Governance Initiative.

He informed that at present ADC-cum-DCRIOs (Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Citizen Resource Information Officer) has been given responsibilities related to data creation and updatation in the Parivar Pehchan Patra Database (PPP-DB). The marriage portal has been integrated with the Parivar Pehchan Patra database for realtime updation of marital status. ADC cum DCRIO has also been designated as the District Registrar for marriage registration with responsibility of the first appellate authority. This will bring in synergies at the district level wherein the citizen will get a one stop redressal for Family ID as well as marriage registration related grievances.
