Chandigarh - At the 37th Surajkund International Crafts Fair, the 182-meter-tall replica of the Statue of Unity, situated on Sadhu Bet Island in Gujarat, remained the center of attraction for the tourists. Positioned on the main road behind the stage of main Chaupal, the replica drew both domestic and international tourists, who eagerly snapped selfies with the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister. Symbolizing unity, the Statue of Unity embodies the enduring legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Statue of Unity, crafted by sculptor Ram V Sutar and unveiled to the public in 2018, serves as a prominent tourist destination. Reflecting India's rich cultural heritage, it stands as a magnificent architectural marvel. Through this grand sculpture, the pivotal role of Sardar Patel in political integration is vividly portrayed. Tourists were also drawn to the stalls of Dhordo, acclaimed as the premier tourist village of Gujarat. During the fair, visitors eagerly captured moments with the renowned Garba dance showcased at the village's stall, highlighting Gujarat's vibrant culture. Dhordo hosts a three-month Rann Utsav fair, recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization for its commendable balance between tourism promotion, cultural preservation, and rural development initiatives.
The Garba dance of Gujarat, showcased as the cultural highlight of the theme state, garnered immense appreciation from tourists at the crafts fair.
