Haryana signs MOU with MBPL for 800 MW Power Purchase, CM

 Chandigarh - With the aim of providing uninterrupted regular electricity to the people of the state, the Haryana Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) to purchase 800 megawatts of electricity. In the presence of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, Managing Director, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Dr. Saket Kumar and Sh. Debasish Nanda from Coal India Limited signed the MoU.

Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal shared this information while addressing a press conference here today. School Education Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal also remained present on this occasion.

The Chief Minister said that a super-critical thermal power plant 1600 (2x800 megawatts) is being set up in Odisha by a Coal India Limited subsidiary company, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

He further shared that Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) had proposed to supply 800 megawatts of electricity from its proposed plant in Odisha to Haryana. Today, an MOU has been signed for the purchase of 800 megawatts of electricity in this regard. He informed that a single tariff (levelized tariff) of Rs. 4.46 per unit has been fixed for the proposed power purchase.

Sh. Manohar Lal said that to increase electricity availability in the state, the state government is also going to set up an 800-megawatt thermal power plant in Yamunanagar. Currently, the electricity production capacity in Haryana is 2, 582 megawatts, and with the construction of this new plant, the state's domestic energy production capacity will increase to 3, 382 megawatts, said Sh. Manohar Lal.

He further informed that significant work has been done in the electricity sector over the past nine and a half years. In 2014, the demand for electricity in the state was 9, 000 megawatts, which has now increased to 14, 000 megawatts. Electricity is being supplied continuously by power corporations. Power is also purchased from hydro and solar power, and Haryana is self-reliant in terms of electricity.  He said that Haryana has achieved significant success in domestic electricity supply, and today, electricity is being supplied 24 hours a day in nearly 5, 800 villages.

Ashima Brar, Director General, Information, Public Relations, Language and Culture Department Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Managing Director, UHBVN Dr. Saket Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, HKRNL Sh. Amit Khatri, Media Secretary Sh. Praveen Atreya, Chief Media Coordinator Sh. Sudesh Kataria and other officers also remained present on this occasion.
