Panjab Digital Library Hosts Enlightening Guest Lecture on 'In Search of Punjab Royals'

Chandigarh- The Panjab Digital Library (PDL) was honored to host an insightful guest lecture today, titled 'In Search of Punjab Royals, ' featuring the esteemed Dr. Kenneth X. Robbins as the speaker. The event, chaired by Prof. Harpal Singh, delved into the rich tapestry of Panjab's princely states, exploring their art, lifestyle, and historical significance.

He talked about his fascination with the medical aspect of the Princely states and various states which are not commonly known such as Bahawalpur and Kalsia.
He also discussed how Kapurthala was given Awadh and the mentality of the Ruling Maharajas towards their state.

Dr. Robbins, renowned for his extensive collection and research on Panjab, captivated the audience with his presentation, shedding light on the diverse aspects of life in Panjab's royal domains. Prof. Harpal Singh, the chair of the session, provided further depth with his expertise on the development of these princely states, expressing his appreciation for Dr. Robbins' perspectives.

The lecture was graced by the presence of the British Deputy High Commissioner of Chandigarh, Caroline Rowett, among other distinguished guests. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, fostering lively interaction between the speakers and the audience.

Davinder Pal Singh, representing PDL, extended heartfelt thanks to all participants and attendees. The event also offered guests a preview of the upcoming museum exhibition at PDL, promising a deeper dive into Panjab's historical legacy. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees expressing their enriched understanding of Panjab's heritage. A student from Punjab University remarked, "Jis soch naal aye si, us to vadh sikh ke nikal rahe ha, " highlighting the educational impact of the lecture. Dr. Robbins affectionately described PDL as "Heaven on Earth for me, " while Joyce Robbins commended PDL's commitment to preserving and promoting Sikh history, stating, "It is a delight to come to a place where history is important and where Sikhs find that they want to promote their history."

The Panjab Digital Library looks forward to launching its museum exhibition soon, inviting everyone to explore and experience the splendor of Panjab's historical narrative.

Dr. Robbins is a Psychiatrist, an art collector, an author, and a passionate advocate for South Asian history and culture particularly in exploring royal lineages and historical narratives.

He has amassed over 100, 000 artifacts related to South Asia, generously donating a significant portion to the Smithsonian Institution, enriching historical understanding for future generations and has penned numerous books and articles, sharing his expertise on Indian art, princely states, and minority communities, contributing to scholarly discourse and public awareness.
