First Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Granth Sahib celebrated with devotion at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib

Amritsar: Celebrating the first Prakash Purb (Enshrinement Day) of Guru Granth Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today organised Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib to Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib.

During the start of Nagar Kirtan under the auspices of Guru Granth Sahib and led by Panj Piaras (five beloved ones), Head Granthi of Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh and SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami offered Siropao (robe of honour) to Panj Piaras, Nishanchi (flag bearers) and Nagarchi (drum beaters) Singhs.

Earlier, bhog (concluding ceremony) of Akhand Path Sahib was held and Gurbani Kirtan was performed by the raagi jathas.

Giani Jagtar Singh congratulated the Sangat gathered on occasion of first Prakash Purb and shared views on teachings of Gurus. He said Guru Granth Sahib is the spiritual guide of Sikhs and it is the duty of every Sikh to live life while following the path shown by the holy Gurbani. He said Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the first Guru compiled Guru Granth Sahib with his own hands in 1604 and enshrined the Guru for the first time at Sri Harmandar Sahib. Baba Buddha Ji was appointed the first granthi (priest) and entrusted the responsibility of services, who established the daily conduct of Sri Harmandar Sahib, which continues even today.

He said that since the time of Guru and till today, on the occasion of first Prakash Purb, the Sangat gathers as per the tradition to pay obeisance and reverence to the holy Guru Granth Sahib. Similarly, Nagar Kirtan is also organised as per tradition, as on the occasion of first enshrinement, the holy saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was taken from Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib to Sri Harmandar Sahib in a religious procession.

During the Nagar Kirtan, youth showed their talent of Gatka (Sikh martial arts) while different jathas sang Gurbani to express devotion. The devotees had organised different types of langars (community kitchen) on the passage of Nagar Kirtan.

Present on this occasion included SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, SGPC executive member Amarjit Singh, Harjap Singh, members Bhai Rajinder Singh, Surjit Singh, Bhai Manjit Singh, Bhai Ram Singh, Mangwinder Singh, Bawa Singh, Bibi Swaran Kaur, Bhai Ajaib Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Akali leader Talbir Singh, DCP Parminder Singh, SGPC additional secretary Pratap Singh, Bijai Singh, manager Sulakhan Singh, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh, Balwinder Singh, Harjinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurinder Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Paramjit Singh, and more.

Grandeur at Sri Harmandar Sahib

On the occasion of the first Prakash Purb of Guru Granth Sahib, celestial grandeur were decorated at Sri Harmandar Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib. Floral decoration with colorful flowers at Sri Harmandar Sahib also remained the center of attraction.

On the occasion of the first Prakash Purb, katha (discourse) and Gurbani Kirtan are being organised at Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib for the last several days and also in different Gurdwaras of the city.

SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh, who attended the first Prakash Purb celebrations today, congratulated the Sangat on this holy day and appealed to adopt teachings of Gurus in life.
