Punjab grapplers take up cudgels against high handedness of Wrestling Federation of India

Kaumimarg Bureau | December 06, 2025 07:44 PM

Chandigarh-Not being content just with wreaking havoc on the sport of wrestling and the wrestlers, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has now resorted to high handed behaviour against the wrestling associations running the sport in the States. The federation is hell bent dissolving the associations adding new fictitious members in order to conduct elections which is facing huge flak from the Wrestling world.

The Life President of Punjab Wrestling Association Padma Shri Olympian Kartar Singh today revealed this while interacting with the mediapersons at Chandigarh Press Club accompanied by the office bearers of wrestling associations of various States.

Divulging further, Kartar Singh said that the Wrestling Federation of India led by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Sanjay Singh has stooped to new low by forming new associations in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra in a sheer display of autocratic functioning. Now, they have gone on to dissolve our association in Punjab and formed adhoc committee scheduling election for December 9, said Kartar Singh adding that the WFI has struck off the names of 36 members out of 46 voter Members adding their own cronies as new members who have nothing to do with the sport of Wrestling nor are they members of District Associations.

A petition has also been filed in the Punjab & Haryana High Court against the December 9 election.

Making more disclosures exposing the dictatorship of the federation, Kartar Singh averred that the Punjab Wrestling Association poll was held in July 2022 and its four year term was poised to end in July 2026 but with the evil intent smacking of maliciousness, the federation issued letter on one pretext or the other to infiltrate it's own acolytes and dissolved the association in August. Then, a 3 Member adhoc committee was formed under the leadership of Jai Prakash Singh with Umed Singh & Satya Pal Singh Deshwal as other 2 members.

The association had given the list of 46 members to ad hoc committee and the returning officer, but the committee arbitrarily changed 36 voting members to conduct the elections according to their own wishes.

During the press conference today, Amanveer Singh, Kulwant Singh, Aditya Kundu, Sarabjit Singh Bala, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Muhammad Khalid Thind, Arfan Anjum, Gurmeet Singh, Sukhmandar Singh, Vishwajit Singh, Ashok Kumar and Advocate Harinder Singh Ghuman, Sukhreev Chand pledged to fight against this grave injustice tooth and nail.
