Chandigarh: A delegation led by Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) President and former Union Minister, S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today met the Punjab Governor Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, in detail, discussed the unfortunate events that are happening in Punjab lately. The delegation included former President of Shiromani Committee Bibi Jagir Kaur, Justice Nirmal Singh (retired) and Mr. Karnail Singh Panjoli.

Meanwhile, a memorandum was also handed over to the Governor by the delegation demanding the immediate release of the Sikh youths who were falsely implicated in criminal cases.

Later addressing the media outside the Punjab Raj Bhawan and expressing concern over the tense situation in Punjab, S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that Punjab is currently going through a very critical time. The Punjab government with its repressive policies is taking unconstitutional action by implicating and arresting innocent Sikh youth in cases based on mere suspicion.
“A meeting has been held with the Governor of Punjab to improve the deteriorating situation of the state at present. Along with this, a memorandum has also been submitted to the Governor urging him to intervene and ask the Mann Government to immediately release the innocent Sikh youths who have been implicated in false cases, ” said S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, instead of maintaining peace and communal brotherhood in the state, is making efforts to defame the patriotic Sikh community.
“Mann Government under the pretext of maintaining law and order is only implementing oppressive policies, innocent Sikh youths are being trapped in felony false cases and this brutality on these Sikhs needs to be stopped immediately, ” said S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
Meanwhile, lashing out at Mann Government for deteriorating the peace in Punjab, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that these inopportune happenings in Punjab are very sad and worrying.
“Just because of the obstinate behaviour and below-average performance of the Mann government, the situation of the state is at a critical juncture. Instead of dealing with the situation in a timely and intelligent way, the government is trying to worsen the situation, ” said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
She said that the Sikh youths who have been detained at Assam Jail after filing felony false cases do not have any criminal background. In such a situation, the action taken by Punjab and Central Government against them under strict laws like NSA is absolutely erroneous and unjustified.
She demanded that the Sikhs sent to Assam jail should be brought to Punjab immediately. Mann's government has proved a complete failure in maintaining law and order and religious harmony in the state.
