75th Independence Day Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated in Model Jail

Chandigarh : Shri Dharampal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

On this  prisoners presented patriotic songs on the theme "Har Ghar Tiranga" which was appreciated by the officers and other audience. The day also marks the closing ceremony of the 03 days "Vishesh Swasthya Raksha (Protective and Promotive Health Awareness)" programme based on Yoga.

The prisoners appreciated the various initiatives being taken for the improvement and rehabilitation of prisoners in Model Jail, Chandigarh, especially the educational program organized for illiterate prisoners towards making Model Jail, Chandigarh the most literate prison in the country. Inspector General of Prisons congratulates the Jail Authorities for such corrective activities for the prisoners of Model Jail, Chandigarh and he said that he is confident that the prisoners will also cooperate with the Jail Administration and contribute to the development of the Nation by taking advantage of such corrective activities.
The initiative taken by Mr. Deepak Purohit, Inspector General of Prisons to show "Mann Ki Baat" started by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India aired on DD National Channel, "Mann Ki Baat" address by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, is appreciated by the prisoners and the show is shown to the prisoners in their barrack on every last Sunday of each month, which is seen with enthusiasm by all the prisoners, so that ideal thoughts are communicated to them. After this programme Special Dinner (Bada Khana) is given to all the prisoners.
In the end, the Honorable Adviser and other Senior Officers inspected the food prepared for the prisoners in the jail and ate food with them.

Deepak Purohit, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons, UT Chandigarh, Dr. Palika Arora, Superintendent Jail and other Senior Police and Jail Officials were present.
