Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today whole heartedly congratulated SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann on his electoral victory in the Sangrur parliamentary by poll and offered him the party’s cooperation.
In a statement here, the SAD president said “we bow before the mandate of the people in true democratic spirit and are confident Mr Mann will raise his voice to get the grievances of Punjabis addressed in parliament.Mr Sukhbir Badal said the SAD had contested the parliamentary by-poll on principles and would continue to stand by them. “We had put up a nominee from the families of Sikh detenues in league with all panthic organisations. This was a principled fight. We will continue to strive to secure the release of the Sikh detenues including Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana who has been jailed since the last 28 years without parole. Another detenue Prof Dewinderpal Singh Bhullar is not being released despite official clearance given for his release because Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had not signed the release orders since the last seven months. Both these detenue as well as all others languishing in prisons even after completion of their life sentences should be released immediately”
