Alka Singh presided over the 38th Annual Convocation of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women

CHANDIGARH 

Mrs. Alka Singh, wife of Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today presided over the 38th Annual Convocation of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh.  In her Convocation address, Mrs. Alka Singh strongly advocated the need for focussed attention on quality education and high standard research to realize the goal of a civilised society. She called upon the young graduated to utilise their education in transforming the society towards better.

       Advising the young graduates, Mrs. Singh said that they should be proud of the skills instilled in them by the College to face challenges of the competitive world.  She further asked them to be the learners, students, innovators and researchers as they go forward in their profession.

       Touching two vital issues of immense importance, Mrs. Singh urged the youth especially women to motivate people towards the humanitarian grounds of organ donation which was plagued by misconception and myths and ‘we need to remove it in the larger public interest’, she said.

       Talking about a cashless economy, Mrs. Singh said that in order to make Chandigarh first cashless city in India, e-transactions, plastic money, various mobile Apps, e-wallets etc need to be encouraged and ‘only the young students especially women can be instrumental in bringing this change’, she added.

       As many as 480 students were awarded degrees during the Convocation.

Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi, Principal presented the Annual College report for the year 2015-16.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Mr. Gurdev Singh Brar,  President Sikh Educational Society, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, Vice President of Sikh Educational Society, Col. J.S. Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society besides faculty members, students and others.
