Chandigarh,   On the auspicious day of Diwali, Rotaract Club Chandigarh Shivalik celebrated Diwali at the Guru Aasra Trust, Sector-55 on 11th November 2020 with the youth and elderly. A Diya decorating competition was organized along with few games. The Rotaractors also spoke to the children about the significance of Diwali and the reason it is celebrated. This was also seen as a great opportunity to educate the children about sanitary measures which are necessity these days. Masks and sanitizers along with sweets were also donated and everyone was briefed on the importance of COVID-19 precautions.
Rtr. Stuti Sharma, Club President, said, “Each and every Diya that was decorated at the orphanage emanated joy. However, we did not just leave the children with diyas and sanitary products, but with something much more important - knowledge.”
Having successfully organized this event, Rtr. Shreeya Rampal stated that "Since Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile, Diwali has always been celebrated together. That is why this year, RCCS decided to celebrate Diwali at Guru Aasra Trust orphanage. Not only was the event knowledgeable and joyous for the children, but it was also a humbling experience for all Rotaractors."
Every occasion brings about new opportunities for growth. The Festival of lights helped the Rotaractors spread positivity and awareness. Diwali is all about giving, sharing, and spreading happiness! Just as Diwali symbolizes the victory of knowledge over ignorance, the Rotaractors’ initiative will help pave way for a future as bright as the flame on the children’s diyas.
