Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has created chaos among industrialists- ASSOCHAM | August 01, 2020 12:39 PM

An imposition of an additional Rs 2 per unit (kVah) for usage of power between peak time i.e. 6pm and 10pm from June 2020 onwards in industrial units announced by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has created chaos among industrialists.

The increase in electricity tariff and PSERC cancelling the decision by the state government to waive off the fixed charges for 2 months during lockdown will affect the cost of production for the industrial units in Punjab. Especially in this time of the pandemic, when the industry wants to recover and the strategy is only to survive rather than maintaining or surpassing previous year’s targets.

We understand that the state government is trying to recover financially but this is not the right time to increase the tariffs, which will increase the cost of production in already financially hit industries. These moves can be handled if the industry or the tax returns have surpassed the previous year’s targets and the market forecasts are bright enough, said Mr. Kulwin Seehra, Chairman, ASSOCHAM Punjab State Council.
