Arrangements in place for special trains from Chandigarh

May 06, 2020 06:52 PM

Chandigarh -Barricading of open spaces at the Chandigarh railway station, deployment of extra security personnel in and around the premises, marking of points for social distancing and proper water facility in platforms were some of the arrangements put in place by a joint team of Ambala division and Railway Protection Force ahead of run of Shramik special trains from Chandigarh.

G M Singh, divisional railway manager, Ambala division, said though Chandigarh administration is in touch with the division, it is yet to place its demand for special trains for migrants. He said a joint inspection team has already reviewed the Chandigarh station to oversee the arrangements.

An RPF official said instructions have been issued to the station head that no person on foot should be allowed to enter the railway station. Only those who commute through buses, arranged by the administration, will be allowed to enter the premises to board special trains, the official added.

As a colony is located near the station, barricades and shields have been used to close open spaces to rule out illegal entry of migrants into the premises.

At Chandigarh station, 40 extra RPF personnel have been deployed to control the crowd and man the entry points. Single entry and exit will be allowed during arrival and departure of special train.

Similar arrangements have been put in place Ambala, Saharanpur and Bathinda railway stations.
