New Delhi, On the 11th anniversary of his historic Olympic gold medal victory, former shooter Abhinav Bindra made a heartfelt wish and hoped that Indian athletes would bag a number of medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On August 11, 2008, Bindra won India's first ever, and only till date, individual gold in Olympics with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 10m air rifle event at the Beijing Games. Bindra had shot 10.8 in the final round to clinch the gold.

"A year away from now I do wish that we would be busy celebrating several gold medals by our athletes. I wish them the best as they go and fight for gold medals but most importantly for their pride and self respect, " the former ace marksman tweeted on Sunday.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bindra finished 4th in the 10m air rifle event and later on September 5 of the same year, he announced his retirement from the sport.
