Amritsar, A total of 85 foreign envoys and high-level functionaries on Tuesday paid an obeisance at the Golden Temple, the holiest of Sikh shrine, as they attended celebrations to mark the upcoming 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh master.

They were accompanied by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations' (ICCR) President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.

Chandigarh, AAP rebel legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Tuesday withdrew his resignation from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday said departmental action was initiated against six police officers and seven Municipal Corporation of Amritsar employees who were chargesheeted in the Dussehra train tragedy in 2018.

The tragedy claimed 58 lives and injured 71 others.

Chandigarh, A turnout of 61 per cent was registered on Monday in the by-elections to the four Assembly seats in the Congress-ruled Punjab.

"The election to the four Assembly constituencies ended peacefully. The poll percentage of 61 per cent would increase," an electoral officer told IANS.

Chandigarh, Twenty-four per cent voting was registered on Monday in the by-elections to the four Assembly seats in the Congress-ruled Punjab.

"The election to the four Assembly constituencies is going on peacefully. The poll percentage was 24 per cent till 12 noon," an electoral officer told IANS.

The Jalalabad seat saw the highest poll percentage of 29 per cent.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday appealed to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to withdraw the $20 fee imposed by his government on pilgrims visiting Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara.

The Chief Minister tweeted his appeal to Imran Khan, saying: “I appeal to @ImranKhanPTI to withdraw $20 fee imposed by @PakGovernment on pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib to facilitate `khulle darshan deedar' of the final resting place of Guru Nanak Ji Sahib. The world Sikh community will be grateful for this gesture on the part of Islamabad.”

The students of schools from rural areas across the state today became the ‘ambassadors of anti-stubble burning campaign’ of the Punjab government by touching the streets to sensitize the farmers about need of conserving the environment by not burning the paddy straw.

Lakhs of children studying in schools situated in rural areas participated in the anti-stubble burning rallies organized in the respective villages to disseminate the message of clean, green and pollution free Punjab. The move was a part of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led state government’s historic initiative to minimize the incidence of paddy straw burning in the state. The participating students who were carrying placards and banners regarding the harmful effects of paddy straw burning made the people aware of the need for not burning the paddy stubble by shouting slogans against pollution.
